Redesigning a banking experience at two levels of freedom.

The existing experience had weak hierarchy and relied heavily on brand colours to create emphasis. I explored how far the product could improve within the existing design system, then how the same brand could evolve when the system itself was open to change.

When everything asks for attention, nothing gets it.

The existing interface used Bank Albilad’s red and yellow heavily and often together, giving components similar visual weight. Dense layouts, inconsistent shadows and weak typography hierarchy made everything compete for attention — leaving little sense of focus, calm or trust.

We turned a navigation-heavy dashboard into a financial overview.

I worked with the UX team on the dashboard experience and owned the UI direction: first improving the product within its existing design system. Accounts, cards, investments and loans were consolidated into one main area. Recent transactions moved to the dashboard, frequent tasks became Quick Actions, beneficiaries became immediately actionable, and promotional content moved below core banking information.

For the revamp, I kept the system and changed how it was used.

The revamp aimed to stay close to the existing design system as much as possible, while cleaning up a bit and fixing issues. I focused on hierarchy instead: more whitespace, clearer typography, restrained shadows, stronger contrast and a more deliberate use of brand colors, red and yellow. Red remained the dominant brand signal, while yellow became more selective. Neutral space gave both colours room to work without every component demanding the same level of attention.

Then I asked how far the same brand could go.

I kept Bank's identity intact, but translated it into a more premium product language: a deeper red became the primary UI colour, the original yellow shifted into an accent role, and tonal surfaces, stronger contrast and more deliberate layering created a calmer experience.

The brand stayed recognizable without using its marketing colours literally.

For the redesign, I expanded the existing red into a tonal UI palette rather than treating a single brand swatch as the only possible primary. The identity stayed recognizable, but the interface gained the depth needed for a premium financial product.
